an.a studio was responsible for the furniture, interior color scheme and finishes of a newly built residence in a quiet residential area of Tokyo.
While the building’s exterior design prioritizes privacy, stepping inside reveals soft light streaming through the high side windows of the tripe-height space. Each room features windows overlooking lush green trees and the sky, creating an open and bright space.
To realize the client’s vision of a “simple, comfortable, and easy-to-organize space,” we aimed for an interior design emphasizing unity.
The overall color tone is based on a light greige, with variations in saturation from white to brown creating depth and sophistication.
As accents throughout the space, we placed round-design decorative lighting and uniquely shaped mirrors.
In the living room, which connects to the dining area and outdoor terrace, a spacious, multi-directional unit sofa was placed centrally for relaxed lounging.
Additionally, two height-adjustable coffee tables were installed, creating a flexible space suitable for private work.
On the inner terrace adjacent to the living room, a hanging chair was added at the children’s request, providing a spot for them to freely hang out with friends.

For the tiles in the wet areas, we chose calm sand beige and moss green, and added a playful touch to the tile shapes to prevent each space from becoming monotonous.
Each private room features chairs designed for comfortable relaxation and focused work.
The children’s room centers around built-in furniture for easy tidying, with accent walls, curtains, and bed linens adding personality.
We’ve received delightful feedback from the homeowners: “Every corner of the house feels comfortable, we’ve been welcoming guests much more often, and the children enjoy living here, each finding their own space to focus or play.”
