Interior design for the renovation of a Japanese-style house with a spacious Japanese garden on the south side, located in a villa area in Hakone.
The client expressed a desire to maintain the Japanese ambience of the building while incorporating a contemporary element that would align with the prevailing lifestyle.
The design by Hikone Architects and Oda Architects made use of the existing floor plan while creating a living room, kitchen, and dining room that is spacious and relaxing for guests. The bathroom with sauna and water bath was also renewed with the aim of creating a bright atmosphere that can be enjoyed by several people, in a way that evokes the experience of a hot spring bath in a long-established Japanese inn.
Design was carefully selected lighting and furniture to make the most of these spaces. The guest rooms, bedrooms, and entranceway were designed with the aim of creating different ambiences by using a variety of light and dark tones.
