In early June, during the season of fresh greenery, the first phase of a revitalization project for a long-established ryokan facing the valley of Tenryu Gorge, a national park in Nagano Prefecture, was completed.
The renovation included the refurbishment of the hot spring, which was the centerpiece of the project, the setup of the front desk and lobby area, which we were involved in, and the renewal of the lighting throughout the entire building.
6月初旬の新緑の時期に、長野県の国定公園天竜峡の渓谷に面した老舗旅館の再生プロジェクト、第1期工事が完成しました。
今回の改修は、目玉である温泉の改修と私たちが携わらせていただいたフロント・ロビーエリアの設えおよび全館照明のリニューアルでした。
The key point of the first phase of construction was to achieve maximum effect in the shortest construction period.
We made the most of the wonderful landscape and the original elaborate and luxurious settings and created a simpler, more modern look.
第1期工事のポイントは、休業期間をなるべく短く抑えるため、最短の工事期間で最大の効果を得られること。
素晴らしい景観と元々使われている手の込んだ高級な設えを最大限生かし、よりシンプルにモダンに仕上げました。
We removed the old-fashioned glass doors at the large display cabinet in the lobby area and replaced the wallpaper into gray-beige, and hung a modern board painting by Kineta Kunimatsu on the wall.
The painting in the photo below is also from t.gallery, which was introduced to us by a friend who works at the Mori Art Museum. t.gallery also carries white porcelain by Taizo Kuroda.
ロビーエリアの大きな飾り棚は、ちょっと古い感じのするガラス扉を外し、壁紙をグレーに換えて国松希根太氏のモダンな板絵作品を飾りました。
下の写真の絵画も、森美術館で働く友人に紹介してもらった t.gallery でお取り扱いされているものです。
話は逸れますが、t.gallery は黒田泰蔵氏の白磁も取り扱っており、それはそれは薄い生地の綺麗な壺です。NYでとても素敵なアパートに暮らしていた知人にも、白磁は印象が強かったそうです。日本のご自宅にも飾りたいとおっしゃっていました。
Since the window on the Japanese garden side occupies almost the entire side of the lobby, lighting was needed to attract the guests of gorgeous night sight.
By illuminating the garden trees with spotlights and bollards, as well as replacing the existing pendant lights with dimmable glare-free downlights on the room side, we were able to eliminate the reflection of furniture and lighting on the large window panes looking into the garden.
庭園側の窓ガラスがロビーのほぼ一辺を占めているので、ロビーから夜の庭園を楽しむために照明の工夫が必要でした。
庭木をスポットライトやボラード照明で照らし、部屋側は既存のペンダントライトから調光可能なグレアレスなダウンライトに変更することにより、庭園を覗む大きな窓ガラスへの家具や照明の映り込みをなくすことができました。
The revitalization project of this ryokan will continue into the second phase of construction, taking advantage of the beauty of the landscape that is preserved due to its challenging location in a national park.
この旅館の再生プロジェクトは、国定公園内に建つ厳しい立地条件であるがゆえに保たれている景観の美しさを生かしながら、第2期工事へと続きます。
